"It’s the lesbians and Wong Kar Wai that really appreciate that."

Hello Reader,

I'm so excited to share our new profile of Canadian filmmaking legend Patricia Rozema by Lena Wilson.

If you've been following us for a while, you may know we championed her last film, Mouthpiece. It's finally available on Blu-ray c/o Kino Lorber, along with her two earlier films newly restored in 4K — White Room and When Night is Falling — which until now you could only watch if you lived in a Canadian city with a great library system.

To celebrate, we profiled Patricia Rozema, in a fun, inspiring, and often funny conversation.

In the interview, Patricia discusses:

  • Getting pulled out of a Filmmaker Magazine for referring to Kit Kittredge as "My thinly-veiled socialist manifesto."
  • Asking Jane Campion for advice
  • What "the lesbians and Wong Kar Wai" love about When Night is Falling
  • How universal healthcare makes risky art possible
  • ...and more!

Enjoy!

Best,

Alex Heeney
